An Embrace Aging Project - March 2006
The Elder-Friendly City Project
Imagine, for a moment,
Victoria as the most elder-friendly city in the world!
Making that grand vision a reality is the aim of the
Senior-Focused Business Network a unique blend of business people and
not-for-profit professionals dedicated to making Victoria a better place to live
for seniors in the community.
Started by Rick Hoogendoorn, a Certified Senior Advisor, and
realtor April Prinz, the Senior-Focused Business Network initially started out
as a referral group for businesses who serve seniors in the Victoria area.
Barb MacLean of the Family Caregivers' Network brought the
first Embrace Aging project idea to the group
and it evolved into the Elder-Friendly City Project.
This project is one of the cornerstones of the
Embrace Aging event taking place in March 2006,
and phase one of our project involves collecting ideas from you on how a
transformed Victoria would (will!) look. Phase two, starting in April 2006, is
about implementing ideas like yours!
Starting in October 2005, the Network is asking "What can
businesses and professionals do to make their services friendlier to seniors?"
Then, with all the ideas and suggestions gathered together by March 2006, the
best of the best will be showcased as part of
Embrace Aging. A draw will be held giving all entrants, like yourself, a
chance to win some terrific prizes!
"This project comes out of a sincere desire to be helpful and
more effective in serving the senior community," says Barry Risto of Senior
Living, and a member of the Senior-Focused Business network. "This project will
not only benefit the seniors of today, but the seniors of tomorrow, as well.
It's the wisdom of our current senior population that we really want to tap."
The Elder-Friendly City Project, and
Embrace Aging, launch October 28th. Here's how
you can participate.
